Trademarks cover slogans, logos, and company names. In the U.S., registering can be done online. The USPTO office page for patents can be found here. It's actually remarkably easy and you don't need a law firm to do it. Law firms are generally used for large businesses that handle significant volume as it's more likely there will be a dispute if your dealing which such high volume.
